Branching Data Bases. Tuesday 24th January 2016

In year 6 we have been looking at creating spreadsheets in Excel . Today's lesson we are making branching data bases ( classification keys) which we are using to sort out animals. It links to our Science topic of classification where we are also creating classification keys but not digitally.

Today we are using a website www.j2e.com/j2data where we are creating our own branching databases on the laptops classifying animals or minibeasts.
Here is some of our work!
Here is Iona, Olivia and Phoebe's work in the progress.
Here is the finished piece!
Here is some more branching databases.

Maths and Computing Meet

In Miss Roffey's maths set, the children participated in a cross curricular lesson. Using the I-Pads, the children created and edited their own educational video. They were encouraged to create a video that would teach some of the younger children, within the school, how to divide decimals using the written method of long division. The children thought carefully about their target audience and what the most suitable digital device and app would be to use in order to reach the intended outcome.

Data Handling

We went on Microsoft excel and put data into a spread sheet. We learnt that a spreadsheet is built up of rows, columns and cells. We worked in pairs and the first person inputted data on the distance a car travels on different surfaces and then the other person inputted data on people's favourite colours. We then turned this data on the spreadsheet into a bar graph.  Written by Billy Dean class Jupiter.
