Continuing to programme using HTML code

After learning lots of different commands and codes in HTML, we practised using more.
For examples: bullet points, paragraphs, colours, adding photos, etc.

We build on our trial and error skills last week to build our websites code by code. We compared this to a house which you would build brick by brick.

In our next computing session, we are going to take these skills we have learned so far and try to answer a bigger problem using HTML code.

CLASS SATURN

Programming using HTML

We started by entering code into notebook. We saved it as a .html file, so that we could use it as a website.

Mr Lynch spoke us through how to create a website through HTML. We inputted HTML code, which helped us create a title, underline, bold and italics, strike through, paragraphs, made a marquee banner that moved across the page.

At the end of the lesson, we discovered what other letters could do in HTML code. We used similarities from before, such as using the brackets, to try out different codes.

We opened our codes as websites.

Learning to Code in HTML

Jupiter class have been programming using html. I am creating my first website this is how I would programme it.

<html>

<head>
<title>
<font color = red>
My First website
</font>
</title>
</head>

<body>

<h1>
This is my first website.
</h1>

I have had fun making this
<marquee>
<i>
this website is amazing
</i>
</marquee>

</body>

</html>

Next I want to add html links, sound, pictures, lists (though I have done them at home), aligning words and new paragraphs.

Programming Refresh - Scratch

We have used Scratch to refresh our memories about programming.

The skills we used and the steps in my algorithm included: making a scene, repeat actions, it speaks, move, expand and shrink, and change colour.

When we tried to change the size of the sprite it kept going too small. We had to experiment with the sizes so that it fitted the screen. It then went too big. We use what we learnt before to correct it.

To make it work correctly I continually tested my algorithm to make sure it was working fly.

A good home provides... (RE, Homelessness & Refugees)

We have drawn houses to show what we think you need in a house and what a home creates. Some of the things home means to us are friendship,family,safe place,TV,bedroom,toilet kitchen,living room ,toothbrush and memories.

WWII Cartoons

Saturn class made cartoons of famous leaders during WW2. We emphasised some features of their faces and made their heads bigger than their bodies. We used sketching to draw the outline and the detail of their faces and bodies. Then we used a thin black pen to draw over the outline. Finally, we coloured in the parts of them that needed colouring.

E-Safety Comic

After selecting a particular online tool (www.makebeliefscomix.com) for our specific purpose (to build an online comic), we spoke about the possible audience of our e-safety comic. The plan was to inform other children about the importance of protections ourselves and others, when communicating online. The structure chosen was a comic. By selecting this unfamiliar technology, we hoped it would increase the creativity and importance of the message we were delivering.

Below are some examples of our e-safety comics.

Communicating Kindly and Responsibly

Previously, in understanding elements of e-safety, we have begun to ensure that we protect personal information, not sharing too much of ourselves, in order to participate in responsible use of social media.

This week, we are ensuring that we show respect online by communicating kindly and responsibly. This will help us to have a better understanding of the consequences of not doing this.

Below is a useful tool to help you check that you are being responsible and kind:

Use the email below and the checklist above to edit what Max is trying to communicate.

Privacy Rules

In continuing to study e-safety, we are looking at the best ways to keep our privacy safe, as it is important to understand that websites can use your data to make money and target their advertising. By keeping certain information private, we protect ourselves in a variety of ways. This is particularly important when we are acting responsibly on social media.

Visit a well-known website, and, using the privacy checklist below, make a judgement about how safe your information is.
Using the comment section below, answer the question, using the information you have found from the checklist.

2) Below is an online profile, in the comment section below, explain which parts of the information are fine to share online and which parts should be kept private.

Talking Safely Online - E-Safety Lesson

Last week, we participated in the safe use of social media, by commenting and replying to comments on this blog. To log-in, we had to use an appropriate password. We spoke about how to keep this safe. Blogging allowed us to select an appropriate tool to communicate and collaborate online, in order to constructively comment and create a dialogue between users.

This week, I want you to look at the following conversation and accompanying questions.

Using the communication and collaboration skills, we learnt about last week, you can post a comment and respond to others, explaining the consequences of sharing too much about yourself online (to ensure we participate in social media responsibly). Think as if Sita is you friend: how would you make sure she protects herself and makes good choices online, including reporting any concerns to an adult.

Macbeth raps

After yesterday's poetry session, Jupiter class have summarised the whole story via the art of rap! To begin with, we split the story into 5 main parts. Once we had decided on the first key topic sentence, which took us a while, we built our verses. As the witches play such an important role in the play, we decided to make them the focus of the chorus.
When we had decided on our words, all that was left was to put it to music.

Have a look at the video below and let us know what you think!

Year 6 doing PE with coach Dan

Every Friday year 6 enjoy a variety of different sports. From handball and hockey to football coach Dan ( our awesome coach) always succeeds in teaching us cool sports skills.

This week we worked on passing a range of objects to each other. The  game helped improve our communication skills. At the start some people were simply handing the objects to each other; lol :)

Today we had a extra special visit from the Easter bunny...

Easter bonnet parade!!!

Today in Upland Primary School we had a Easter bonnet parade. In year six, two people took part... Don't they look amazing?!!

Wednesday 11 March 2015

Today we did a science investigation based on dissolving sweetners with different water temperatures such as cold,hot ,warm and room temperature. We found out that the sweetners dissolve the quickest in hot water effectively because hot water has more energy so it breaks the sweetners much faster than the other water temperatures .

Tuesday 10 March 2015

Today we made leaflets in partners to persuade tourists to visit somewhere in Llandudno. We researched information about the place we where going to and put it into the leaflet. We could change the fonts, put pictures on it and make them really colourful. We really enjoyed this lesson!

Andy Barrow's visit to Upland Primary School

His visit was inspirational to not only me but many of my fellow classmates especially how he got to the Olympics  after a tragic life changing accident that occurred during a game of rugby. He was explaining in full detail  how important a healthy diet can be and how too much sugar is extremely bad as well as we should be drinking plenty of clean water and not harmful energy drinks to keep us hydrated during excise.  He told us how long he had to train per-day. We were very lucky to experience this amazing man at our school. I hope I get to see him agin later in life!!

If the world were a village...

Today we watched a video that showed us what percentages the population of the earth would be if it only had 100 people living on it. Once we had collected information on the population, we created pie charts and bar graphs to show us the continents that had the most people living in them.

If the world were a village...

Today, we watched a video about if the world were a village and only had 100 people in it. Then we transferred the population of each country onto pie charts and bar graphs.

A vibrating motor that vibrates the legs.

I made this moving robot by firstly I cut out to foam squares the same size. Next I cut a tiny square out of one of them then stuck them together.then I stuck a motor to the bottom of the hole.then finally I rapped the device in tin foil and put four paper clips at each corner as legs.

LITERACY DAY!!!!!!!

Today was literacy day, we had so much fun! We did so much awesome stuff like: we watched a live show inspiring us to read books and use are imagination. We also put our imagination to practice by creating a dream world of our own and we got to draw it. (We could even do it in collage form)

Mandarin Day

We made these plates for mandarin day they are for Chinese New Year.They tell a story of a Chinese princess moreover on the other side is a picture of the story. It is called a willow patern!

The other side of truth

This term we have been reading The other side of truth by Beverly Naidoo. Today we have put ourselves in Sade and Femi's shoes after they are caught up in an incident in a video store. The children are taken and interview by the police. So that we could write our own police incident reports we interviewed the children to gather as much information as we can. You may wonder why the children in the videos are using false names, year 6 will tell you all about it in the comments section below ...
